...something new

So K and I put lil' Wilder down for his evening howl fest, which typically preceeds the eight hours of infant catatonia when it became (quite unexpectedly) very quiet in his room.

I snuck across the squeaky floorboards and peeked in and to my amazement (and a good deal of hilarity) Wilder was peeking BACK at me! He has figured out that he can flip over onto his belly and peep up over the inside-cradle cushions. You could almost see the wonder in his eyes. He seemed to be thinking, "WOW! This isn't a timy little room, its a Room in a room. and oh, look there is Papa and heheh I see you papa!"

was a magical moment.

Happy Milestone Kiddo

Five months old today.

Highlight of the day: Discovering Wilder's ticklish on his legs. Pinching above his knee met with rounds of giggles. Awesome.

I'm almost 5!!!

Well, 5 months old, that is. And see, I'm sporting this sweet new spiky 'do -- for about an hour after my bath anyway, then it lays flat.

Not much has changed since my mom last blogged here. I'm taking what my Pop calls "mortar dumps," (a little formula in the diet will do that, I guess). Oh, and I have a new nanny, Mariana. My old Nanny B had other obligations. So we had to find someone else to take care of me. I already love Mariana, though, and my mom and dad thinks she's awesome too, so all is well in our world. And we're pretty sure Nanny M will be around a long time. She's going to teach me Spanish, too.

I guess we're taking a vacation in June. Mom and Dad have mentioned Colorado (don't worry Tenneessee clan, we'll be there in August!), but haven't made any final plans yet. If we go, though, it will be my first trip on a plane. Woooohooooo!

OK, that's all for now. I have to get some Zs. It's Friday night. We have a big weekend of fun ahead of us. Man do we love the weekends!

Slobbery kisses and clammy-handed hugs for all!

Mister Smiles

Well, it's been quite a week for us and Wilder. To start with, today he experienced his first parade. Every year, the Greenville Avenue St. Patrick's Day Parade is near our house, and this time we went with our friends Sherry and Dan and Jynnette Neal with their daughter Lea, who's three months older than Wilder. We had a BALL. There's lots of pictures below. Afterward we went by our friend Lisa's house, who has having a few people over for the holiday (St. Patty's Day is huge in Dallas). And we had a great time there as well.

It's also been a big week for Wilder developmentally and personality-wise. For starters, we're getting our first big laughs, and perhaps not coincidentally since we started getting him more nap time, he is just the happiest baby. I swear he has a smile on his face 90 percent of the time. It's awesome and, of course, such a killer feeling to have that whole face open up with delight just about every time he sees you.

He's also getting very mobile. He rolls over constantly now, and just this morning managed to get his knees under him and scoot forward a bit. Crawling can't be too far in his future, we're thinking. He gets so much stronger with each passing day.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff. Jerry and I have just been amazed at all the little changes taking place in Wilder's life. He's becoming quite the independent baby. But absolutely the coolest thing is the genuinely joyful little kid he's become.

Anyway, hope everyone is well. Love to all, J,K & W

Though it really is a family affair for the most part, the parade has a few gentlemen's club employees in it (ok strippers). One ran over and stuck this token between Wilder's toes. It reads: A Four Leaf Clover For Good Luck. I should note about 20 other people in the parade ran over to string beads around his neck. Wilder was a swag magnet! I meant to take a picture of him with all his beads but forgot.  Posted by Picasa

Sherry sings Barry Manilow (Not randomly, of course -- there was actually a float dedicated to the love of Barry's music.) If you can't tell, Sherry LOVES St. Patty's Day! Posted by Picasa

Four-month Checkup Results

Yep, that's right. Our boy continues to be somewhat freakishly large. So much so that the doctor was charting his growth on the 6-month scale before she got confused and remembered he's actually only 4 months old. She also tried to get him to put more weight on his legs and then said, "I'm expecting too much of you because of your size."

So here's Big Boy's stats:

Weight: 16 lbs., 12 oz. (That was actually a bit of a surprise —— I thought for sure he was 17 lbs.-plus)
Height: 26 inches, or as Jerry likes to say, 2-foot-2
Head circumference: 44 cm (I have no idea what this means, only that his head is large)

He's at the 90th percentile for weight and height and just over 75th for noggin size.

He also got four shots —— two in each thigh again —— and of course quite vocally announced his displeasure at having multiple needles jammed into his poor little legs. Man that stinks to watch. Like last time, he's having a hard time bouncing back to his normal self, but I'm sure he'll be fine in no time. And, on the plus side, he got new guilty-mama toys for his suffering. See, always a silver lining!

Well, we're off to have lunch with papa here pretty soon. Hope everyone is well. Love, W, J and K
